The initiative will combine a new session of the BARferencias cycle, this Friday, 10 July, and a route around Tui\u2019s fortified systems, scheduled for 12 July. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first activity will take place this Friday, 10 July, at 8:30 p.m. at Al Dente, in the Mercado de San Antonio in Tui, as part of the Fortalezas da Fronteira BARferencias cycle. The session will feature Rebeca Blanco-Rotea, archaeologist and researcher at Lab2PT at the University of Minho, and Tiago Rodrigues, architect at the University of Beira Interior. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blanco-Rotea will give the talk \u201cDiscovering the Fortified Landscape of the Border: A Look at Tui\u201d, in which she will address the importance of this territory within the context of the defensive systems of the Galician-Portuguese border. Tiago Rodrigues, for his part, will present \u201cFisionom\u00edas da Paisagem Fortificada: (des)mistificar e (des)montar o territ\u00f3rio no vale do rio Minho\u201d, focused on the reading and interpretation of the fortified landscape of the Minho valley. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme will be completed with the route \u201cVisit to the Fortified Systems of Tui\u201d, which will take place on 12 July at 10:00 a.m., departing from the Music Pavilion on Tui\u2019s Paseo da Corredoira. The visit will be guided by Rebeca Blanco-Rotea and will offer participants the chance to discover part of Tui\u2019s defensive system on site, as well as its historical role in an area shaped by the border, movement and the defence of the territory. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These activities will be attended by the mayor of Tui, <strong>Enrique Cabaleiro<\/strong>, and the mayor of Valen\u00e7a, <strong>Jos\u00e9 Manuel Carpinteira<\/strong>. Those interested in taking part in the routes can register via <a href=\"https:\/\/rutasdehistoria.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>rutasdehistoria.com.<\/strong><\/a> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These activities are part of Fortalezas da Fronteira, an archaeological project focused on the excavation of the As Torres battery in Tomi\u00f1o, which seeks to research, promote and enhance the defensive heritage of the border. The programme combines archaeological work, volunteering, BARferencias, routes and activities open to the public in order to bring the history and memory of the territory closer to new audiences. The project is linked to the international volunteer camp currently taking place in Tomi\u00f1o, with participants aged between 18 and 30 from Galicia, other parts of Spain, Italy and Mexico.
